Frequently Asked Questions

With all of the educational options available to parents in the state of Wisconsin, we're sure you have questions. If what you are looking for isn't answered here, don't hesitate to contact us. We're here to help.

Is Pella Hill Virtual Academy a Christian school?

Yes. Pella Hill is an evangelical ministry.  Jesus is at the heart of everything we do.

Evangelical: Evangelical Christianity is a branch of Protestant Christianity characterized by an emphasis on the authority of the Bible, a relationship with Jesus Christ, and conversion. Evangelical Christians tend to be more conservative in their theology and social beliefs than other branches of Christianity.

Do we have to be Christians to have a child attend?

No, you do not have to be a Christian to have a child attend Pella Hill. However, please be aware that our classes are taught from a Christian perspective, and all staff and faculty are committed Christians.

Why is Pella Hill a better option than public school?

Choosing a school is an important decision. Pella Hill offers a faith based education built on strong academics, Biblical teaching, and personal attention. Smaller class sizes and individualized learning plans help students grow spiritually and academically. Our focus on character, interest-driven learning, and active parent involvement creates a supportive community where students feel known and prepared for the future. Pella Hill also provides opportunities for service, leadership, and enrichment that align with each family’s faith and values.

What does Pella pay for?

At Pella Hill, we begin by choosing exceptional materials for the core subjects: Bible, Language Arts, Math, Science, and History. Teachers, working with parents, select high quality curricula that fit each student’s needs and abilities. Families also receive generous Provision funds that allow teachers to add excellent supplemental resources. These funds also support enrichment opportunities such as extracurricular activities, field trips, memberships, internet, sports, technology, and college courses.

What are some examples of curriculum?

Pella Hill offers two curriculum tracks that provide strong, flexible learning options.

  • Track 1: Through a collaborative process, teachers and parents curate materials tailored to each student. All materials must align with our core standards and meet specific criteria for approval.

  • Track 2: Math instruction primarily uses Masterbooks. For Language Arts, resources include Apologia Writers and Readers in Residence, Apologia American Literature, Compass Classroom Writing through the Wardrobe, and Compass Classroom Writing with the Hobbits.

As we expand our staff, teacher expertise will guide future curriculum selections.

What is Chapel?

While chapel is optional, it is an essential part of life at Pella Hill and receives intentional care and attention. It is a time for students to pause, refocus, and grow in their understanding of God's truth.

We offer two chapel settings so messages are age appropriate and meaningful. Elementary students in grades 4K through 5 attend one chapel, while students in grades 6 through 12 attend another. Both groups are led by trained pastors who teach Scripture in a way that connects with real life and helps students build a strong theological foundation.

Is this "online schooling?"

The amount of time a student spends on a computer is largely determined by you. Through a collaborative process, teachers and parents determine what Track is best suited for your student. Track 1 has the option to take online courses while Track 2 requires attendance in live, online, synchronous classes.

Is Pella a homeschool platform?

No. While we recognize that parents play an instrumental role in a child's education, and we collaborate with parents regularly, Pella is teacher directed. As a private school, we are ultimately responsible for each student's instruction, assessments, record keeping, and reporting. We understand that when a child is doing schoolwork at home, it is easy to refer to it as "homeschooling."

Can my child be held back, suspended, or expelled?

Yes. Like any other school, if a student fails to meet academic benchmarks, is truant, or has significant behavior issues, a different school environment may be more suitable. All policies and procedures are explained in the student handbook.

Does Pella Hill have a special education program?

At this time, Pella does not take part in the Special Needs Scholarship Program (SNSP) and does not offer traditional Individualized Education Plans. However, our Learning Plans are tailored to each student in much the same way. The presentation, pace, and curricula can be chosen to meet most special education needs.

In addition, we provide reading intervention support for all grades, which allows us to serve students who benefit from targeted instruction.

Is Pella Hill accredited?

Pella Hill is pre-accredited through the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and part of the Impact Christian Schools (ICS) consortium.
