Orienteering/Map Reading Class

This Beyond the Basics Class is where your student asks the question: "In the age or iPhones, Google Maps and GPS, ever wonder how we navigated before those things existed?" Join us as we relearn how to use a compass, read a map, and put those two skills together to find our way around without batteries, screens, or satellites.

We'll not only do it in a virtual class, but also practice it in the woods and I'll show you how to do it in your own back yard!!

This class will meet 2 separate times: via zoom and in person. The virtual class will be 2 hours long and the in person will be 4 hours. We have 2options for you to choose from of dates for the virtual class and the in-person class. You will indicate what session you would like to come to below. *You can do both virtual and in person OR just one!

  • September 17th @ 1pm-3pm

  • September 30th @ 1pm-3pm

• In Person Class Options:

  • October 16th @ 10am-2pm | (location TBD)

  • October 23rd @ 10am-2pm | (location TBD)

Your student will be added to this class in their SPARK account, where it will appear on their schedule along with the Zoom link for each class meeting. This class is only open to Pella Hill Virtual Academy students.

Please note that the class dates listed above will not automatically populate on your personal calendar. Be sure to add these dates to your calendar so you don’t miss a class.

Pella Hill is covering the cost of this class. This is not coming out of your students provision. Registration includes a compass and printed map needed for the class.

Your teacher, Mr. Pankow, will provide any additional instructions for the class.

Registration closes August 28th at 5:00pm to allow enough time for class materials to be ordered and mailed to students before the class begins.
