Course Description: This course introduces students to the foundational principles of psychology, including key figures often referred to as “The Fathers of Psychology.” Students will explore and compare various psychological methods and approaches, gaining an understanding of how they are applied in real-world contexts. As part of the course, students will examine the DSM-5 and engage in thoughtful discussions about common mental health challenges in contemporary society. Christian counseling will be presented as one approach within the broader field of mental health support. While this perspective will be explored, the course is informational—not devotional—and is open and respectful to students of all religious backgrounds. This course meets two times each week, minus holidays. Course Format: Each week consists of two class sessions: Lecture Day: Focused on teaching core concepts and exploring key psychological and counseling issues. Discussion Day: Dedicated to thoughtful conversation based on the assigned reading. Coursework: Students will complete a work-pack throughout the course. They are welcome to use various resources, including AI tools, peer collaboration, parent input, and independent research. Capstone Project: To demonstrate their understanding, students will complete a final project by responding to one of two guiding questions. This may take the form of a written paper, oral presentation, multimedia project, or another approved method that reflects meaningful engagement with the course material.
